Dear AACP Members,
We are finally into our first full week of school and I would like to take a moment to tell you – WOW!… I am yet again, truly in awe of the amount of work that takes place in such a short amount of time. YOU ROCK!!! I know that most of you were not able to make the first General Membership meeting due to work and other obligations, but we will be posting meeting minutes soon so that you can still stay in touch.
This website is still under construction, as you can see, and any/all suggestions will be taken into consideration as to the content that it will contain. This is YOUR website and we want you to be able to use it as a tool for communication, learning and anything else that we can offer.
I do not need to tell you that we are facing a tough year ahead. With having Senate Bill 5/ Issue 2 looming towards us and a levy on the ballot this year, it is sure to make for some additional worries. To make our union and Akron Public Schools as strong and efficient as possible, AACP needs your support. I realize that having time to donate outside of work and home is sometimes very difficult, but if you can even spare a few minutes – every minute counts as well as every member! We have several opportunities where you can assist, whether it’s working with Beth Chandler-Marks and Issue 2, assisting with the content of our newsletter, being a mentor to a new member – the list goes on and on.
I do not want my first President’s Letter to you to be completely full of doom and gloom though. We do have some great things in the works also. Since last spring a committee has been working diligently with Ellen McWilliams and Carla Sibley to form a Customer Service and Mentoring program. This program will be peer driven with the support of your administrators. With all of the changes, new computer programs and higher work loads sometimes we all need to know that there is someone to go to that would be able to guide us through whatever questions or problems we may encounter. I will emphasize now that this is NOT in any way, shape or form a discipline action. This is geared toward building up areas that we may be deficient in – not everyone can know everything!
In closing I would like to say that I may not have been prepared to take on the role of your union President, but I will do everything I can to ensure that each one of you is being treated fairly and has the tools and knowledge that you need to succeed. If at any time you need me, send me an e-mail or give me a call. I am a firm believer that we ALL are each other’s best supports and everyone has something to contribute.
